Audio Sample From iRiver MP3 Player & Sony Microphone
At the last Orange County Podcast User Group meeting, I recorded a short sample using Craig Patchett @ Godcast's:
- iRiver iFP-795 (mp3 player), and
- Sony ECM-MS907 (microphone).
Here it is at 256-kbps bit rate (standard recording level), and the only editing I did was taking off the dead air at the beginning and the end of the original file sent to me by Craig: iRiver-Recording-Shorter.mp3 (525.8K).
There is a lot of background noise because of the room we were in, but otherwise I think the audio quality is pretty good for doing a mobile show, face-to-face interviews, and sound seeing tours.

Hello. Your sample here sounds great. I just got the exact same setup, but I'm getting tons of hiss... I don't hear that in your sample... what's the secret? Thanks!

The key I think -- and Craig P at the Godcast.org helped me -- is to make sure that you are recording the right way.
Go into General - Control - Line In Recorder and make sure the settings are STEREO, 44KHZ, and 128KBPS.
Also go to Line-In/Ext Mic. is checked. And Line-In Record Volume is set to something like 55. I'd also turn Line-in Auto Sync to off.
